Here’s how to secretly measure their ring size for a proposal

There comes a stage in a relationship when you realise it’s time to take it to the next level, get down on one knee and propose. You obviously want the ring to fit them perfectly, but asking your partner for their ring size does ruin the element of surprise. To pull this off smoothly and ensure that it takes their breath away as you surprise them in a way they could have never imagined, here are some handy tips. 

Get a jeweller to size up a current ring: See, it isn’t even that tough. Just make sure that it’s a ring that they wear every day (it shouldn’t be any random ring or their favourite ring as they will know that it’s missing) and pay attention to what finger it is usually on. You might have to think about another strategy if they don’t wear a ring on their ring finger. 

Measure their finger when they’re fast asleep: This sounds fun? Doesn’t it? Use a piece of string and wrap it around their finger and note its length with a marker. You need luck to be on your side as timing is everything here. It’s great if they’re a heavy sleeper as you’ll get a lot of time to get the measurements, but you might land yourself in a lot of trouble if they’re a light sleeper who wakes up just when you have a string in your hand. 

Ask a friend to help: If you want to let someone else in on your secret, ask a friend or family member of theirs to help out. They would be able to get your partner’s ring size casually without raising much suspicion. They could do so by taking them shopping or asking them randomly during a conversation. 

Gift them a ring for another occasion: You could gift your partner a ring for their birthday or anniversary. If that’s nowhere close to when you want to pop the question, you could take them shopping and make them try out rings in addition to jewellery, clothes, etc.
