Fabric, often chiffon, organza, or voile when done right, holds the power to add a luxe, dreamy touch to your space. Cascading across the pillars of the mandap or criss-crossed back and forth overhead, drapery, especially when accented with flowers and foliage, makes for an exceptionally elegant décor feature.
"Besides offering shade at an outdoor affair and camouflaging problem areas in the set up, drapery marries sophistication with drama...When pleated to perfection or paired with fairy lights, it can turn the décor around. In addition, drapes serve as a focal point for supporting elements such as flowers, lights, crystals, et al," says Jueta Hemdev, Director, Yolo Entertainment & Weddings.
Saanya Sharma, Aashna Lalwani, and Sanjana Shah, Co-Founders, Three Entertainment, go on to make a compelling case for printed drapes. "Printed drapes add that extra laver of detail to make a big impact. They can be used along the pillars of the mandap, as a backdrop for the seating, or can even be used to create a quirky photo-op wall," they advise.
Jueta shares, "Once you've picked an aesthetic for your celebrations, sift through fabric in myriad hues and personalise them as per your theme. Velvet drapery in rich hues of emerald green, royal blue, or red are ideal for a soirée... Whereas, cream macramé drapes are befitting for bohemian-inspired nuptials."
Highlighting a few more interesting ways in which one can incorporate drapes in their celebrations, she adds, "If your wedding space is expansive, divide the entire area into more intimate bits with flowy, floor-to-ceiling drapery. You can even create a simple, albeit striking backdrop with multiple panels of draped fabric. Lastly, throw drapes can be used to embellish couches or decorative stands, to elevate the grandeur of the setting."
This is a separation that might just bring you closer!
