From 'pyaar dosti hai' to 'you jump, I jump', there will certainly come a point in life where you will keenly contemplate the true meaning of 'love'. And while the experience of this magical feeling is subjective, ever-changing, it's not all that hard to put into words for some.
We got 6 women to reveal their first encounter with this oh-so-wonderful emotion, raw and real. Listen up...
'I think the best part about falling in love was that it was with my best friend. There wasn't a day when I was insecure or jealous. In fact, it was just the opposite. I felt so secure and comfortable about my position in his life and his in mine. We hadn't even flirted with one another because we never saw each other as a couple. However, I always knew that I was as important to him as he was to me. I never felt like I had to be afraid of losing him to someone else because no matter where he had been that day, who he had spoken to, his day would always end with me, like I was his home. It was like a never ending ‘honeymoon phase’ and we hadn't even started dating! I just knew I wanted this feeling forever. I was in love with the feeling and I was in love with him. Still am, four years running.' ~Nadia, 20
'I found out I was head over heels in love when I couldn’t envision a day without him. At the back of my mind, he was there with me in every single thing I did.' ~Alara Öztürk, 21
'I happened to met him out of nowhere and we started spending all our time together; working, watching TV, gossiping, and laughing (a lot). Before I knew it, the friendship had turned into something more like a relationship. I found myself smiling silly at his cheesy compliments, I was happy even when I was angry, I felt amazing about myself, and all I wanted to do was to be with him all day. I found out I was falling in love when I became so used to him around that I needed him present to make me happy.' ~ Ishita Ambardekar, 20
'We had known each other for only 2 weeks and we got along like bread and butter. However, it was time for him to return back to his university. Before he left, we met daily for those two weeks and chose to do something fun and different every single day. I’d never felt this way about anyone else before...I didn’t want him to leave, because I didn’t want it to end. Somewhere down the line we both knew we liked each other but felt long distance was not a practical option. The night before he was supposed to leave he told me he loved me and that he would postpone his flight for me... I didn’t believe it. I met him the next day and said my goodbyes. As he was boarding, he called to say bye and I started crying and hung up. It was at that moment that my best friend suggested we go for a drive. When I stepped down, he was there...That’s the day I knew I loved him, because the surge of emotions that sprung upon me as I saw him before me, in flesh and blood, I'd trade it for nothing in the world.' ~ Ahana Raheja, 19
'He was my friend’s best friend and he would sit with us in a group. Whenever we all sat together, I used to gaze at him, dumbfounded almost; I was in awe of how he looked. It was childish, stupid and an immature kind of love (?) A little later in life, he started dating one of our mutual friends and that was probably my first heartbreak! (even though technically not). I realised I loved him because hearing about him being with someone else made my younger self painfully sad. Just before he was about to shift schools, on our last day together, he told me that he loved me too. It's funny how small things make us so happy. I often reminisce those days and smile...' ~ Anonymous, 20
'He was new in my life. He asked to take me out on Valentine’s Day for a surprise dinner and I was already quite mad at him as he took forever to get ready (that's my prerogative!). Moreover, he refused to tell me where we were going. After creating much suspense, it turned out that he took me for the date night cooking program where he was going to cook for me. It made me feel oh-so-very-special! He baked me a cake and promised he’d always cook for me. That's the moment I knew. As they say, the way to a man's (woman's too!) heart is through their stomach.' ~ Devya, 20
