From a meet-cute to a dream wedding, Surbhi Jyoti and Sumit Suri’s adorable love story

The actor shares details of her heartwarming proposal, stunning wedding attire, and unforgettable moments from her nature-inspired wedding with Suri at the picturesque Aahana Resort in Jim Corbett.

The truth is, no matter what you say, at some point in our lives, we’ve all fantasized about our wedding—the decor, the food, the guests, and especially the location. For most of us, the location is a lavish one. Who wouldn’t want to get married against the backdrop of breathtaking hills, right? Well, Surbhi Jyoti, an actor, recently tied the knot with Sumit Suri in the stunning Jim Corbett National Park, making her dream of a beautiful, nature-inspired wedding come true. But as enchanting as the location was, the real beauty of the day came from the couple’s heartwarming meet-cute story, their connection, and their incredible journey leading up to the wedding.

After the big day, Brides Today had the chance to speak with Surbhi about how she met Sumit, their path to love, the proposal, and other wedding tips—from stress management to beauty advice—that might come in handy for all the brides-to-be.

Brides Today: How did you meet your husband? Was it a classic meet-cute or a setup?

Surbhi Jyoti: It was a funny, accidental encounter! I had recently bought a house and was looking for someone to help me design it in a classy, tasteful, minimalistic style. A friend mentioned that his friend, Sumit, had a beautifully designed home, so he introduced us. At first, everything was purely professional; Sumit connected me with the right people to bring my vision to life. But as we started meeting frequently, there was something special between us. One day, he just came out with it and confessed he was in love with me—bold and completely sincere. It took me a little while to realize it, but eventually, I knew I felt the same way.

BT: People say, "You know when you know" when they meet the right person. How did you know? Was there a specific moment?

SJ: There wasn’t a big, cinematic proposal moment, but his confession was so genuine and bold. I could see the love in his eyes, his honesty shining through. What drew me most was how dedicated he was to his work, his humor, and the way he always found little ways to make me laugh. He’s the kind of person who might not always be expressive, but when he is, it is with his whole heart. I realized then that I had found someone incredibly special, and I fell in love with him, too.

BT: Tell us about your proposal. How did it go? Do you prefer a low-key proposal or a grand one? What was yours like?

SJ: Our "proposal" wasn’t a grand, planned affair, but it was absolutely perfect. Sumit has this beautiful way of expressing love in unexpected, heartfelt gestures. One morning, he was leaving for his hometown, and I couldn’t see him off. When I woke up, he had left a beautiful bottle with a lily and a ring inside it—random, sweet, and completely him! It is these moments that make me fall in love with him all over again.

BT: The big question—how did you finalize your wedding dress? Was it easy or challenging? What inspired you?

SJ: I knew I wanted a traditional bridal look in classic maroon, even though everyone knows I’m usually drawn to pastels! For my wedding, however, I dreamed of something timeless, and Neeta Lulla brought that vision to life. My Punjabi bridal outfit was rich with intricate detailing, perfectly complementing Sumit’s attire. For each function, I chose outfits that celebrated different facets of my style: an olive green ensemble by Gopi Vaid for the Mehendi, a vibrant mustard yellow by Pallavi Jaipur for the Haldi, and a teal blue sharara by Manisha Pitambara for the Sangeet. Anshika Tak crafted the perfect look for the reception. Every aspect of the celebration was brought together by these incredible women. Dakshita Bhatla, founder of DB Spaces, designed the stunning decor at Aahana, while Ayu, Director at Aahana Resort, managed everything flawlessly. The entire event became a tribute to women’s creativity, and I couldn’t be prouder of how beautifully it all came together.

BT: You’re getting married in Jim Corbett, a dream location for many. Did you always want to get married there? Why did you choose this spot?

SJ: I have always dreamed of a wedding surrounded by nature, whether it was the beach or the mountains. With my husband being from Uttarakhand, it felt perfect to honor that connection. Aahana was the ideal spot—its stunning, eco-conscious landscape, warm hospitality, and natural charm gave our wedding the magical touch I had always wanted. Friends and family kept telling me it was the most breathtaking wedding they have ever attended, and I couldn’t have imagined a better place to start this journey!

BT: What beauty tips would you share to help a bride-to-be manage wedding stress and maintain a glowing look?

SJ: To all the brides out there—expect some stress no matter how well you plan things. Keep your guest list intimate with only the closest people. Hydrate as much as you can, and avoid experimenting with any new beauty treatments right before the big day. And if you want a truly magical setting, I’d say marry at Corbett, marry at Aahana! *laughs*

BT: Did your wedding have a theme? What was it, and why did you choose it?

SJ: Yes, our theme was all about keeping it natural and minimalistic. We wanted our wedding to blend seamlessly with the beautiful surroundings at Aahana. An outdoor ceremony with greenery, soft lighting, and simple, elegant decor—my dream was to be married under the open sky, hand in hand with nature. It was a tribute to simplicity and a celebration of the beauty around us.

BT: One special moment from your wedding that you will always remember.

SJ: Walking down the aisle and seeing Sumit waiting for me was the most surreal, emotional moment. I couldn’t hold back the tears—it felt like everything around us had paused, and it was just the two of us in that beautiful, dreamlike moment. I will treasure that feeling forever.
