According to Dr Gary Chapman, there are five love languages: words of affirmation, acts of service, quality time, physical touch, and receiving gifts. People express love in various ways, and understanding these differences and adapting to them to show your love for your partner is key to a fulfilling relationship.
For instance, if you express love verbally, your love language is words of affirmation. On the other hand, if your partner shows love through actions like cooking for you or buying your favourite dessert, their love language may be acts of service.
While it's natural to have different ways of expressing love, it's important to learn to speak each other's love language. This understanding helps us feel truly loved and more secure in our relationship. Below, we've listed a few things you can do to make your partner feel loved if their love language is acts of service.
Water their plants for them
Sometimes, after a bad day, all one can think about is going back home and sleeping to bring the day to an end. But if you know your partner is having a terrible day, you can turn it around or at least try to make it a little better by surprising them with their favourite food when they come home or having it delivered to their workplace. This is surely one way to make them feel loved, happy, and valued.
Pick them up from work
On a day when you finish work earlier than usual, surprise your partner by picking them up from work. Those whose love language is acts of service appreciate the effort put forth. Going out of your way to do something special for them will undoubtedly make them feel loved and happy. It's a meaningful gesture that communicates your love without needing to say a word.
Cook something for them
Share memes
Sharing memes is more than just sending someone a funny picture or video—it's about sharing laughter and joy with someone you care about. You may come across a post or reel online that instantly reminds you of them, prompting you to send it to them immediately. These gestures are small yet meaningful, showing how much they mean to you. It's a subtle, yet genuine way of expressing love and appreciation.
Saving the last bite
Saving the last bite for someone can truly be seen as the ultimate sign of love. It's a subconscious act that places their happiness above your own. Though this selflessness may not always be advisable, at this moment, it showcases the purity of your affection for them. Indeed, it's one way of saying ‘I love you’ without actually saying it.
