5 Bollywood movies that will bring out the wedding buff in you

Some marriages are made in heaven, while some are made on the silver screen. For decades, Hindi cinema has treated cinephiles to a host of iconic love stories that’s seen the lead duo live their happily ever after. Case in point, who hasn’t dreamt of having a stunning royal, Rajasthani wedding after watching Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani or a dreamy bridal entry like the one in Veere Di Wedding?

So, while you’re busy making the most of shaadi season currently, we’ve picked out five iconic wedding movies to binge watch. 

Hum Aapke Hai Kaun

There are weddings and then there’s THE wedding where a dog (we all remember the adorable dog Tuffy) saves the day. A movie with a playlist that sees its chartbusters played at some sangeet events even today, wedding movies don’t get bigger or better than this. Its iconic song, Didi Tera Devar Deewana, got everyone in the family shaking a leg along with Joote Dedo Paise Lelo that made the joota churai ceremony. Band Baaja Baarat

Here’s a movie that goes beyond just focusing on the big fat Indian wedding. Rather, it gives us a behind the scenes look into what really goes into pulling off these extravagant affairs. Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh play the role of wedding planners who ultimately end up falling in love with each other. Along with the film being hugely entertaining, the songs are equally foot-tapping and the movie depicts what goes into making one’s dream wedding a reality. It’s also a nod to the people who give it their all to make these weddings memorable milestones for the couple and their families. 

Veere Di Wedding

This movie revolves around four women who come together for a bachelorette party in Thailand as one of them is all set to (finally) get married. Packed with stunning locales, outfits that make them look like a million bucks and a whole lot of drama and girl power, the film is a roller coaster of emotions that give us some major wedding goals. Don’t believe us? Just look at Kareena Kapoor Khan’s bridal outfit in the movie where she looks like an absolute dream or the iconic phoolon ki chaadar scene with her entire bride squad.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

This is one movie that is an evergreen favourite and we’ve probably already rewatched this dozens of times. While the first half of the film made everyone want to have that dream holiday in picturesque Switzerland, the second half is all things desi, spotlighting the big fat Punjabi wedding in all its glory. A mehendi ceremony with an evergreen song, SRK and Kajol being adorable during karva chauth, a household alive with the hustle and bustle of wedding preparations—DDLJ is a film that’s all got the ingredients for a quintessential Indian wedding that will make you laugh and cry. 

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani

We can’t talk about wedding movies and not mention this film. YJHD was what put Rajasthan and The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur on the map when it came to destination weddings. Remember Kalki Koechlin’s bright and colorful mehendi ceremony? Or that adorable scene at the pool where Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone dip their feet in? The entire wedding sequence was dreamy at best—from the sangeet preparations, the beautiful mehendi ceremony, a dance off, an energetic cocktail party and so much more.
