Treatments to prep your skin for the monsoon, one for each skin type
No matter your skin type, we’ve got you covered.
As the monsoon season sets in, our skin undergoes several changes due to humidity and fluctuations in temperature. It becomes essential to adjust our skincare routine to ensure a healthy and radiant complexion. There is no 'one size fits all' approach as different skin types react to the rains differently, and thus need different ways to tackle skin-related problems.
Here are a few treatments one can consider for different skin types.
Oily skin: The humidity during monsoons can exacerbate oiliness. Hence, it's crucial to maintain a balanced skincare regimen. Begin with a gentle, water-based cleanser to prevent excess oil build-up, followed by an alcohol-free toner to maintain the skin's pH balance. Incorporate a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser to prevent dehydration. Exfoliation will help unclog pores and reduce breakouts once or twice a week. Masks containing clay or activated charcoal can be used once or twice a week to absorb surplus oil and impurities. In-clinic treatments for oily skin in monsoon should focus on cleaning the oil glands and reducing an active infection.
Black Peel: An organic peel made from black rice and a mixture of salicylic acid and jasmonic acid which improves and reduces all active acne and cysts.
The Hollywood laser: A carbon peel that helps to rejuvenate the skin and help to clean the oil glands.
Deep Cleansing Facial: Due to the soaring humidity through the monsoon, particularly in the case of oily skin, the skin feels sticky and bumpy despite washing it a few times. This could be because your pores are clogged or the sebaceous glands are overactive. A Deep Cleansing Facial is the best-suited treatment in such a case.
Dry skin: Despite the humidity, dry skin can still experience dehydration. A creamy, hydrating cleanser would be ideal, followed by an alcohol-free toner to retain moisture. Use a rich moisturiser, preferably one with hyaluronic acid, to lock in hydration and prevent dry patches. Regular exfoliation with a gentle scrub can help remove dead skin cells and allow better absorption of skincare products. A weekly hydrating mask can provide an extra moisture boost like a honey and avocado mask.
Blue Spirulina Super Oxygeneo 3 in 1 Super Facial: The oxypods contain blue spirulina, niacinamide, and lactobionic acid which work together to hydrate, replenish, and improve skin moisture. The exfoliation and oxygenation infusion helps rejuvenate the skin.
RA 360 degree facial: For those experiencing dry skin during the monsoon, this facial is highly recommended. It is used to treat dull skin, penetrate vitamins and essential nutrients into the skin, and relax the skin. This treatment uses lymphatic drainage which is the most effective tool for puffiness in addition to instant hydration. Additionally, it works on the deeper layers of the skin thus leaving your skin refreshed and rejuvenated.
Sensitive skin: Sensitive skin needs careful attention during monsoons. Opt for a mild, fragrance-free cleanser to avoid skin irritation. Alcohol-free toners with soothing ingredients like aloe vera or chamomile can help maintain skin balance. A hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic moisturiser is recommended for daily use. Consider using masks with calming ingredients like oats or cucumber once a week.
Brightening peels: During the monsoon, uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation are quite common skin concerns for two reasons - one is over production of melanin due to sun exposure as most feel the need to skip sunscreen, and two is the build-up of dust, pollution and dead skin cells. One can opt for brightening peels which include ingredients such as ferulic acid, Vitamin C and the likes, which aid in lightening and brightening the skin tone. This can be followed by a laser which further promotes an even skin tone. It also helps to tighten the skin and address deep pigmentation. The ingredients in these peels can be altered to fit your skin type.
