We've all been there—you wake up in the morning, take a look in the mirror, and recoil in horror. Puffy face!
You are hoping to wake up in the morning looking to start the day on the best possible note only to look yourself in the mirror and stare in horror as you see your pretty face all puffy. It could happen because you didn’t get a good night’s sleep, you forgot to remove your make-up, ate food with high amounts of sodium (fast food or processed meals), consumed alcohol, are on your period, have a certain allergies, the list is endless. While the reasons for the puff—when fluids build up in your facial tissues are aplenty, we tell you how you can implement certain changes in your lifestyle that’ll reduce, and if done well eliminate them too.
A cold spoon or some ice cubes: Using a cold spoon or ice cubes to depuff the eyes in the morning is a quick and effective method. Simply chill a spoon or ice cubes in the refrigerator for a few minutes and gently place them on the under-eye area. The cold temperature helps constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling, resulting in reduced puffiness. This simple remedy can provide a refreshing and revitalizing effect, making your eyes look more awake and rejuvenated in no time.
Lymphatic massage: A quick lymphatic massage can help drain toxins from your face. Gently massaging the skin in specific motions can stimulate lymphatic flow and promote detoxification. This simple technique can provide a refreshing boost to your skin, leaving it looking and feeling revitalized. Do it twice a day with your face wash for two minutes
Reduce the amount of salt intake: If you face the tendency of waking up with puffy skin, it’s best to reduce salt intake. The reason behind it is that salt has water retention properties that could lead to puffiness. In addition to this, try and increase your fluid intake as this can drain out the excess salt and toxins.
Change the way you sleep: You’ve got to get the right amount of sleep, as too much or too less will see you wake up with a puffy face. What’s more, your sleeping position plays an important factor here. So try not to sleep facedown or on your belly. Avoid sleeping flat on your face as it obstructs the skin's follicles, which restrict the skin's ability to breathe. Sleeping on your spine is better. The fluids go away over the course of the day as you spend time upright. What you could also do is sleep with a double pillow that sees your head slightly raised, thereby facilitating the flow of fluids downward.
Do regular exercise: Regular exercise definitely helps as it stimulates blood circulation. Getting the heart pumping can promote circulation in the body, including the face. Doing so will make you feel less bloated and more awake resulting in reduced puffiness.
Avoid a hot shower: A hot shower can increase fluid as well as blood supply to the face causing puffiness. So avoid them.
Eat certain foods: Certain foods like whole nuts, omega-3 fatty acid-rich foods, green tea, dark green vegetables, and ginger, among others, can help reduce inflammation and can reduce facial puffiness.
Cool Compress: Any form of cold can work wonders on a puffy face. Cooler temperatures will help to significantly reduce inflammation, tighten pores, and remove pollutants in addition to waking you up.
Simply dab some ice cubes on your face using a microfiber towel. You can also chilly spoons if there is no ice in the refrigerator.
Fuller's earth mask: Fuller's earth is a well-liked clay that is used in DIY face masks. You can get rid of your skin's oiliness, as well as the redness and swelling, by applying a fuller's earth mask.
