L.A’s most wanted beauty savant tells you how to get by with minimal foundation and more.

If your bridal mood board has 'minimal makeup' written in bold (capped and underlined too!), then you should take note of makeup artist Jordan Liberty's techniques.

The L.A-based artist is well-known for doing a full-face of makeup using only concealer and rarely, foundation. So, if less is more for your wedding day look, here is what he has to say:

Brides Today: What is your favourite foundation when it comes to bridal makeup?

Jordan Liberty: I actually don’t use foundation. I use concealer almost exclusively. This makes the skin look luminous and fresh in photographs. If the bride has 3 blemishes, they usually go for full coverage whereas I am like 'Let's just cover only those three and use maybe a tinted moisturizer over the rest of the face'. That way the makeup looks less cakey, lasts longer because the more makeup you have on your skin, the more you need to set it and the more it may crack or crease over the day.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is pretty much exclusively what I use. It not only has a great texture but is light, has great coverage and is also available in corrective shades perfect for dark spots, hyperpigmentation because they have these orangey tones that help brighten the skin when applied.

BT: How can we pick out a foundation closest to our skin tone?

JL: I always prefer swatching on the cheek and the warmer one on the jawline. For foundation, I suggest going a little darker and then using a lighter concealer because if you use a lighter product on blemishes they tend to look greyer.

BT: What are 3 must-have beauty products that are always in your vanity bag when doing bridal makeup?

JL: Brow pencils or anything to fill your brows, mascara and lipstick. For the brows, I use a gel eyeliner or brow pomade one of my favourites is the NYX Professional Makeup Micro Brow Pencil. I like the Kush Mascara at Milk Makeup for fluffy, voluminous lashes. When it comes to lipstick, it’s a personal preference in colour, for red I love Ruby Woo in the retro matte formula, it really is such a classic red. Statement lipsticks look really great, you can leave the house in just that and it looks really polished. Plus, you can use lipstick as a blush!

BT: What is your *expert trick*  while creating bridal makeup looks that you would like to share with the readers?

JL:Less baking, less heavy makeup. I think the best bridal look is all about looking like you have perfect skin even when you don’t! So, my best advice would be relying lesser on traditional methods that advocate applying makeup in regimented order. So, skin is in.
