5 Stylist-Approved Fashion Essentials For The Groom-To-Be

From getting the perfect fit to choosing the right accessories, gentlemen and best men, here's all you need to ace your wedding look.

The wedding fashion for men has truly come of age. From choosing complementing colours to carefully selecting a fabric of their choice, Indian grooms are all about cutting a dapper figure at their own or their bestie's wedding.

Stylist and founder of CLAD - a styling service exclusively for grooms, Tanya Vohra agrees. 'An increasing number of men are opening up to newer ideas and paying more attention to detail, from the cut of their suits, fabric and colour of their kurtas/sherwanis, to the embroidery on their bundis and prints on pocket squares. I think they are now making a conscious effort towards their appearance, grooming and fashion,' she says.

So, if you are looking to make an informed style choice, here are her sartorial tips to keep in mind while staying true to your own personal sensibilities:

Making sure you stand out whilst staying true to your style

'There are so many different styles and types of looks you could experiment with – you can be adventurous with colour/print choices, experiment with fabrics or just stick with a classic option – what matters, in the end, is what makes you feel confident & makes you look like the best version of yourself,' says Tanya.

It's all about the fit

'It could you be the most exquisite and expensive sherwani in the world, but if it doesn’t fit you well it just won’t look good! A few things to keep in mind – it shouldn’t gape from the chest, shoulders should naturally follow the contour of your own shoulder, neither extending beyond or short of it. The length of the sleeve should be around the wrist bone - too long and it will end up looking sloppy. Everyone has their own preference for the length of their sherwani’s / achkans – if you are unsure the safest bet would be to keep it slightly above or at the centre of your knee.'

Think seasons

'What you’ll wear for a winter wedding vs what you’d wear for a summer wedding would be different. For winter weddings you could opt for heavier fabrics like tensel wool/velvets/tweed. For summer weddings more breathable fabrics like linens/ cotton silk etc.'

Accessories

'Accessories will completely transform your look and is a fun way of letting everyone know that you’re the groom! Go for quirky prints on your pocket squares, colourful marble buttons or silver skull buttons on your achkans, lovely hand block prints on your safa – these little details will help you make a bit of a style statement & make you stand out as the groom.'

Groomsmen

'An all-time favourite trend is coordinated groomsmen – whether it’s matching printed Nehru jackets /safas or pocket squares – it always makes for a fantastic photo opportunity.'
