We are in the middle of winter, which means it's skiing season throughout the northern hemisphere; picture mountain destinations with a fresh blanket of snow! We don’t think there's anything more romantic than celebrating the start of your married life (an adventure together), by embarking on a thrilling ski vacation. If you’re a skiing enthusiast or just looking to enjoy breathtaking views of snow-covered valleys on your winter honeymoon, then these destinations around the world should be on your list.
Zermatt, Switzerland
Think skiing and snow-filled getaways, and Switzerland immediately comes to mind. After all, most of us have watched our favourite Bollywood leads romancing each other in the picture-perfect snowy spots of Switzerland. Zermatt is the highest altitude in the country and has slopes that are just right for everything from skiing to hiking, and climbing. And if you’d like a bird’s eye view of the place, you can take a helicopter ride as well! In fact, serious skiers can visit high trails via helicopters as well.
Auli, India
Auli is undoubtedly one of the hottest skiing destinations in India, and for good reason. It has everything an adventure enthusiast could ask for—skiing slopes with steep drops, expansive skating rinks, and picturesque views of Nanda Devi, the second-highest peak in India. Remember to take a look at the weather forecast before planning your honeymoon though, as sometimes the scarcity of snowfall can affect skiing opportunities.
Aspen Mountain, USA
Aspen in Colorado is synonymous with skiing and might even be one of the most famous destinations in the world. In fact, it finds a mention in movies and shows like the Lindsay Lohan-starring 2022 holiday rom-com Falling For Christmas. It’s got it all—from luxe shopping boutiques, chic hotels, and resorts, to a fine dining scene that can’t be beat. So, if you’re planning your honeymoon in the USA, then Aspen Mountain should be on your itinerary for the ultimate skiing experience.
Niseko, Japan
Japan might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of a typical skiing location, but its northernmost region of Hokkaido is dotted with ski resorts, Niseko being one of them. The mountain region is a favourite among skiers owing to its white powdery slopes and plenty of sunshine. Niseko is in fact made up of four main resorts, Hanazono, Hirafu, Niseko Village, and Annupuri, all of which are simply known as Niseko United and can be accessed with the same lift pass. You can also enjoy a dip in the onsens which are natural hot springs, go horse riding, snowboarding, and more.
Gulmarg, India
Another popular destination in India that promises a great skiing session is Gulmarg, the place for a vacation that is equal parts romantic and adventurous. The town is known for being the third-highest ski resort in the world and its pristine white slopes invite ski enthusiasts to enjoy innumerable snow runs. If you’re a seasoned skier, you’ll feel right at home at Gulmarg. And if you’d like to take it slow, you can just take in the stunning views, or enjoy other activities like gondola rides and treks.
