Take cues from Shraddha Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit on how to style a Paithani saree

Sarees, if you ask us, are the epitome of elegance. You can never go wrong with them, and Bollywood is the very proof of this fact. Think about all the times Sridevi dazzled and twirled in a chiffon saree on a hill in Switzerland, when Sushmita Sen made at least a dozen fall flat as she walked in the red saree in 'Main Hoon Na', and when Kajol played a basketball match in 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. We could go on and on, but you get the point.

From the Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu to the Banarasi silks from Uttar Pradesh, when it comes to Indian weaves, the options are endless. However, the one that has recently caught our eye is Maharashtra's traditional weave, Paithani saree. Each piece is distinguished by the incorporation of gold and is crafted from pure mulberry silk. 

While this saree can be styled like any other, we decided to take inspiration from the OG Bollywood diva, Madhuri Dixit and Shraddha Kapoor, and here's what we've gathered.

Kohl-rimmed eyes for the win 

Shraddha Kapoor complemented her stunning purple Paithani saree with striking eye makeup. She opted for a slightly smokey-eyed look that complements the saree's hue. To achieve the smokey eye effect, all you'll need is kajal, some brown eyeshadow, and a brush. Begin by outlining your eyes with the liner, then gradually blend using the brush. Afterwards, apply the brown eyeshadow and blend it well together for a more defined look. For the base, the actor opted for a lighter tone, complemented with a nude lip and minimal blush. But the lesson here is, if you're going for a fancier look, kohl-rimmed eyes and lighter base make-up can surely complement your saree and elevate the overall look.

Don’t forget the ‘nath’ 

A 'nath', a traditional nose ring, is commonly paired with sarees. When considering wearing a Paithani, be sure to include the nath, as it complements the attire beautifully and takes the look to a whole new level. Madhuri Dixit's look serves as testament to this. The actor opted for some minimal gold jewellery for this look, with open hair. If minimalism is your thing, then take notes, for this can serve as great inspiration.

Add the ‘gajra’

When it comes to hair, nothing complements a Paithani saree like a mogra gajra. When styling the look, Shraddha Kapoor also opted for a neatly closed bun adorned with white flower ornaments. Take cues from this look and grab some setting spray, a hairbrush, and gajra. 

You can drape it differently 

If you want to go for a different look, you can play around with the draping of the saree and drape it in a 'nauvari' style. It's named because of the unique way it is draped, resembling that of a dhoti. Kapoor opted for a similar drape as she celebrated the Maharashtrian festival 'Gudipadva.'

The chandrakor bindi 

Bindis are an integral part of all traditional outfits, and just like the variations in food and languages, we also have variations in bindis. When choosing a Paithani, you can enhance the look by adding a 'chandrakor' bindi, resembling a crescent moon. Madhuri also completed her look with this bindi, which looks absolutely stunning.
