How Kareena Kapoor Khan makes a case for restyling old jewellery for a contemporary look

The recently concluded three-day pre-wedding festivities celebrating the upcoming nuptials of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant have been trending on social media with the entire B-town as well as international guests and artistes such as Ivanka Trump, Mark Zuckerberg, and Rihanna in attendance. Among the star-studded attendees, Kareena Kapoor Khan stole the spotlight, looking stunning as ever in the Indian outfits she wore at the festivities. 

On the final day, she wore a gold Zardosi custom jacket and dress by Ritu Kumar. What caught everyone's attention, however, was the neckpiece she wore with it. The polki necklace she wore with the ensemble was the one that she had donned at her reception in 2012. 

At her wedding, Kapoor-Khan, had paired the polki neckpiece with heavy earrings over a Manish Malhotra pink gharara set. This time, she made sure the neckpiece remained the highlight of her look. It’s important to note that while both the looks are widely different, the same piece of jewellery can be used to style it differently. 

In fact, Kapoor had worn an heirloom sharara at her wedding, which was also worn by Sharmila Tagore at her nikaah. The sharara was given to Tagore by her mother-in-law, who belonged to the royal family of Bhopal.

Celebrities have been advocating repeating outfits and jewellery, as it promotes conscious shopping choices. In fact, it helps normalise celebs being able to repeat an item that’s close to their hearts and they absolutely love. For instance, Alia Bhatt repeated her gorgeous wedding sari by Sabyasachi, as she went on to receive her first National Award for Gangubai Kathiawadi. Speaking on the same, Bhatt said, “A special day calls for a special outfit. And sometimes, that outfit is already right there. What’s special once can be special again. And again...” She insisted her fans “repeat, reuse and re-wear” their clothes.

In fact, for one of the pre-wedding functions, Isha Ambani borrowed Nita Ambani’s jewels—a diamond and emerald set comprising a layered necklace, maang tikka, earrings, and bracelet.
