In a breathtaking digital experience at the first digital India Couture Week at 8 pm this evening, Amit Aggarwal is set to unveil his futuristic collection that depicts the weightlessness of the ocean, the caress of the wind, and the cradle of earth as they nurture you in their promise.
Designer Amit Aggarwal
A confessed traditionalist for whom couture lived within the tactile experience of touch and feel, 2020 urged Amit Aggarwal to reconsider and reinterpret his sources of inspiration.
While we experience the world through the safety of our homes, mother earth continues to heal and breathe, marking the promise of new beginnings. As the oceans continue to churn, the wind continues to blow, and the sky still holds her secrets and celebration from sunrise to twilight, it seemed only appropriate to allow 'nature' to lead the way for his Couture 2020 collection.
In an exclusive interview with Brides Today, Amit shares the inspiration behind his latest collection, the must-haves in every brides trousseau, and the launch of his e-commerce website www.amitaggarwal.com .
Brides Today: What does couture mean to you?
Amit Aggarwal: Couture for me is a feeling of wearing an outfit that is made especially for you, embodying your spirit and aesthetic. We always tread a balance of the surreal and functionality of the garment and it’s exciting to translate that vision into a digital experience. At the heart of it is our constant brand story of intricate craftsmanship and hand embroidery. The Couture 2020 collection displays our signature aesthetic of futuristic biomimicry encouraging you to embrace the present and see beyond through the portals of time manifested in reimagined industrial material and signature polymers.
BT: What is the inspiration behind your latest 2020 collection?
AA: This collection depicts the weightlessness of the ocean, the caress of the wind, and the cradle of the earth as they nurture you in their promise. Putting together a couture show is creating a celebration for all five senses for the audience to take in. Hopefully, through this film we will be able to achieve it through presenting new modes of virtual content, even if consumed on screens.
The collection also signifies the sense of celebrating oneself, now more than ever before. We’ve attempted to arouse this feeling while trying to encapsulate the intricate details, structure, and form of the outfits.
The Mood Board
BT: How have you reimagined and reinterpreted some of your iconic silhouettes for this range?
AA: The show video that we’ve done is more a mood that highlights the idea of freedom and ethereal lightness. We've imagined this collection to provide an escape and set the mind free to help reimagine the wearability of signature Amit Aggarwal textiles.
BT: Could you elaborate on the chosen colour palette for this collection?
AA: We’ve been strongly inspired by the beauty of nature. Seafoam, deep forest green, and sky blue are the main colours utilised in the collection.
BT: Which fabrics and embroideries have been used?
AA: We have used our signature textiles, handwoven with industrial by-products and intricate hand embroideries, inspired by organic forms in nature.
BT: Any favourite piece that’s closest to your heart?
AA: Our 3-dimensional winged lehenga inspired by the fins of a fish reimagined as wings is one of my favourite.
BT: What will the digital experience be like for audiences on www.amitaggarwal.com ?
AA: The audience will experience the digital world of Amit Aggarwal, featuring signature textiles and workmanship, from the safety and comfort of their homes. From sarees and lehengas to dresses and separates, the offering also includes a luxury pret line with the promise of seasonal capsule collections. The website and its many collections are a proud call from the future of Indian craftsmanship; a seamless shopping experience with classics and exclusive products.
BT: According to you, what are the few must-haves in every bridal trousseau?
AA: Light lehengas with intricate modern workmanship and structured sarees in jewel tones!
