5 rules of thumb for winter skincare that you will make your skin glow

Follow this checklist and achieve a healthy, supple glow for your big day.

We all have our hearts set on a twinter wedding for the stunning landscapes and the pleasant weather. But this winter fantasy comes with a pitfall as the season can wreak havoc on your skin. Yes, the dry winter winds are a real glow snatcher. So, if you want to manifest that surreal glow for your dream wedding, here are a few winter skincare tips you should follow for a bridal glow.

Start a skincare routine early on

An ideal skincare should start six months prior to the wedding. Consult your dermatologist in advance to address issues like acne, hyperpigmentation, dryness, etc. Starting early helps your skin adapt to new products and show visible results.

Simplified skincare is the way to go

Sticking to a three-to four-step skincare routine is always better than committing to a complex beauty regime. Basic skin care includes cleansing, toning, moisturising, and sun protection. Start with a mild cleanser, followed by a toner and serum to balance the PH levels of the skin. Choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type and complete it with a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Incorporate solution-driven formulas targeting specific concerns. For example, if you are dealing with acne-prone skin, consider using products like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Vitamin C or niacinamide can be beneficial for acne scars and pigmentation issues.

Hydration is the key

Your skin is thirsty during winter and keeping it hydrated is imperative. Incorporating hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid into your AM and PM routine will keep the skin supple. Include hydrators like ceramides, niacinamide, Vitamin B5, aquaxyl, squalene, and glycerin to prevent trans-epidermal water loss during winters. An optimum intake of water and consuming antioxidant-rich foods like cucumber, spinach, celery, oranges, watermelon, tomatoes, pomegranate etc. is equally important to improve hydration inside out. It helps to flush out toxins and strengthen the skin barrier.

Try professional treatments

Consult your dermatologist and discuss the results you want to achieve. Professional treatments like Microneedling with PRP, hydra facials, medium depth chemical peels, and IPL therapy are some of the rejuvenation treatments that you can add to your wedding skincare regime. Stay away from treatments that dry out your skin during winter. Focus more on skin prep when you are close to the big day and make sure you do not introduce anything new three months before your celebration.

Get your beauty sleep

Blame your favourite Netflix binge and Instagram doom scrolling, a ‘good’ night sleep is a far-fetched dream. The sleep cycle can significantly impact the overall well-being of your skin. Your skin goes into restore and repair mode at night and it's important to get adequate rest in the months leading up to your wedding. Lack of sleep can cause dull skin, dark circles, and puffy eyes. Ensure you get a minimum of seven to eight hours of quality sleep each night.
