There’s nothing quite like the feeling of curling up with a romance book. When the leads kiss, or meet eyes for the first time, you feel your heart racing too! Good romance books don’t just make you believe in love, they take you through the experience of being in it. I wouldn’t give up the depth of emotion romance has for anything. And while you're in the thick of wedding planning, perhaps the gooney reminder of being in love is all you need to make the running around all worthwhile, which is why we give you our picks of the best love stories to read.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Two ‘work nemeses’ who can’t stand each other after a disastrous meeting meet each other after our lead girl Nora travels to a small town planned by her (adorable) sister and bumps into our guy Charlie. It’s one of the books that make you feel, subtly. The heart-wrenching sadness is pretty evident, but so is the beautiful love that our leads share. A notable quality of the book is how wittily it addresses the many classic tropes in romance novels. And aptly so we might say because our leads are book editors and agents respectively.
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren
This New York Times bestseller is about Olive, who feels she’s always overshadowed by her twin-sister Ami whose life is something out of a rom-com. After Olive’s lost her job and experienced way too many mishaps, Ami forces Olive to be with the best man, Ethan—who Olive just happens to hate—for the wedding. But food poisoning at the wedding (somehow) only leaves Olive and Ethan well enough to enjoy a ‘free honeymoon’ in Hawaii. Olive happens to see her future boss there and now Ethan and Olive are pretending to be newlyweds. It’s really sweet, and Ethan’s darn cute. You’ll laugh and enjoy with all the characters, and I’m sure anyone with an overachieving ‘lucky’ sibling can relate!
This Time It’s Real by Ann Liang
I’ve always got a sweet spot for Asian characters, and these high school kids are just too cute to resist. Eliza Lin wrote the sweetest essay about meeting the love of her life, which becomes viral, and she’s got everything she’s wanted. Except… she made it up. She doesn’t know the first thing she’s talking about. So she asks Caz Song, a famous actor from her class, to be her pretend boyfriend. He’s everything she wanted, he makes her little sister laugh, takes her everywhere on his motorcycle, and does all the things a perfect boyfriend would do. Soon it’s a little too real for Eliza, is she going to give up her heart for her dreams or not? The story’s got heart and swoon, and is pretty close to your K-drama/C-drama world!
In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
Manhattan lawyer Dannie Kohan goes to sleep nailing her job interview and accepting her boyfriend’s proposal. She wakes up five years in the future with a ring on her finger, but a very different man beside her. One hour later she’s back in the present. Dannie isn’t the type to spare a second thought to this ‘vision’. She goes back to her life. But, four-and-a-half years later, she sees the same man she saw that night. What next? For all of us who are wondering who’s out there for us, read this charming story to believe that the best is coming. Plus Dannie’s best friend Bella is a gem of a person, and you’ll be calling your best friend to read it besides you!
The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary
Whether you’ve seen the British TV show adaptation of this book or not, you’ve got to read this book. Tiffy Moore and Leon Twomey share a flat. They’ve never met. But they share a flat. Tiffy needs a cheap flat and Leon works nights. Leon can have the apartment when Tiffy’s at work during the day, but Tiffy keeps it in on nights and weekends. Maybe not the best arrangement, but they make the best of it, writing notes and instructions. They share enough notes to make them friends… and even more. There’s way too much that happens in the book even though they’ve never met. Wrongly imprisoned brothers, obsessive ex-boyfriends and so much more. It’s really cute, and makes you think, can you fall in love with someone you’ve never met?
