As a bride or groom, the pressure to feel and look your best on your wedding day is building to an all-time high. So much so that some of them consider cosmetic upgrades to enhance their looks on their big day. The usual suspects for these upgrades are lips and cheekbones, often considered to be the defining features of a face—this also explains the invariable use of makeup or filters to give the illusion of higher cheekbones. Another option that’s gained immense popularity is cheek implants.
What does a cheek implant do?
Cheek implants can be used to enhance the volume and contour of the cheeks permanently. This will do away with the need for contouring and filters. They are very useful for individuals who feel that their cheeks are flat or appear sunken due to ageing or genetics.
But should you opt for one in the months before your wedding, two leading skin experts tell you about the things to consider.
Do you want something temporary or permanent?
Cheek facial implants may be right for you if you want more volume and shape in your cheeks. But if you want to lift loose skin and smooth away lines and wrinkles, you may get better results from a facelift. Cheek implants are permanent and they give the cheeks a more defined and youthful look. If you don’t want to undergo surgery, fillers can be a lesser alternative. These are designed to last a lifetime, whereas fillers offer a temporary result for 9-12 months and require maintenance treatments to keep up over time.
What is the procedure like?
Cheek implants are made of a safe material like silicone. They are put into the cheeks through a small cut made inside the mouth. This avoids any scars or marks on the face. The surgery is done at a hospital under general anesthesia. It’s a procedure that takes an hour and you may go home the same day. You will be comfortable in doing your daily activities almost immediately.
It will give you permanently enhanced, glamorous cheekbones, with no need for any long-term precautions or follow-ups. When performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, the procedure is safe, risk-free, and rewarding. Very often, this surgery is combined with other procedures such as chin implants or rhinoplasty to improve the overall harmony and attractiveness of the face.
That said, there are risks involved with every surgical procedure. Some may experience an infection, swelling, scars, or bruising which may last for a week or two.
The timing is important
There is a recovery period associated with this surgery, and you should plan it at least a month or two before your wedding. If you are short on time or are afraid of surgery, an alternative option is a Dermal filler. This non-surgical enhancement procedure can be done a few weeks before your wedding. Keep in mind that fillers are temporary and need to be repeated every year or two. Furthermore, they will also not give the same extent of enhancement that can be achieved with implants.
The benefits of cheek implants
By giving your face a more defined and well-balanced structure, cheek implants may improve your appearance overall and give you more self-assurance. They can also be used to restore the natural appearance of the face after any reconstructive surgery for cancer, or traumatic injury.
Contrary to several non-surgical methods, cheek implants provide long-lasting benefits, obviating the necessity for follow-up care. That said, this quick fix comes at a cost ranging anything between ₹1 to 1.5 lakh.
