It might not be the first thing that comes to your mind as a groom, groomsmen, or guest, but a pocket square can easily make or break your look. With a variety of options available, in the form of different colours, patterns, designs, and styles, you are spoilt for choice. It is important to choose the right one that complements your style and outfit. And here's us sorting you out for the final touch of your outfit.
The many do’s and don’ts
Choosing the right colour
You can either choose the same colour in a different shade, or opt for a square that complements the colour. Remember, a darker shade is best for a formal occasion while you can play around with hues if things are casual.
You should also consider the texture of the suit while picking out a pocket square. Opt for linen or cotton squares for a more casual look, and silk for formal events. It’s best to wear pocket squares with subtle or simple prints or texture. For example, black and white suits go well with monochrome shades.
The bond with the tie
Don’t try to be too perfect by matching the pocket square with the colour of your tie. If you’re wearing a bold printed tie, go for a simple pocket square and vice-versa. The main purpose of the pocket square is to complement the outfit/tie. If it is matchy-matchy, you’re doing something wrong.
How do you fold it
Straight folds work best for any formal event like in the case of a funeral or an interview. For a wedding, you’re free to do whatever you like. We suggest going for a flat or two-pointed folds if it’s a slightly formal wedding. If the vibe is more laid back, go all out with the classic puff fold, or the wave fold or the reverse puff fold that are our favourites.
