Author Nikita Singh and tech wiz, Nick Sheridan fell in love on a dating app, got three close friends together as witnesses for their marriage, and later hosted a traditional ceremony in India. Here's a peek into their story of togetherness.
How They Met
In 2017, while they were both living in Manhattan, New York City, India-born Singh and Sheridan met on a dating app. “What stood out, was that we both treated each other like real people and not a profile on an app,” the author shares.
The Next Step
On a gorgeous sunny day, the two took a boat to a private bay in Lake George, dropped the anchor, and jumped into the lake. Sheridan swam away to a nearby island and was gone for what seemed like a long time, and upon returning, presented Singh with a seashell. “I thought that was sweet but uncharacteristic, because neither of us is cheesy like that,” Singh laughs. Once they returned to the boat, Sheridan told her he had found another special object for her, went down on one knee, and popped the question.
The Elopement
Love has a way to get you excited... And so, they decided to get a marriage licence over a 20-minute-long ceremony at the City Hall, after which they would elope in two days. They decided on West Village as their venue, the neighbourhood where they first met, and their close friends took on the roles of videographer and witnesses.
The Details
While Sheridan grabbed the first suit that fit him at a store, Singh wore an ivory gown from Reformation (an LA-based sustainable brand) that she had bought back in 2020. She tied the bunch of roses that Nick bought her from SoHo with the white ribbon that came from her Tiffany & Co. ring box.
The India Ceremony
“My parents hosted an intimate sagaai puja in our home, followed by a dinner party at the Radisson in Ranchi,” Singh shares. “This served as a way for both sides of the family to meet and greet each other.
